Exploring the neighborhood
Getting some fresh air: One and two year-olds from the Southeast Day Care Center stroll around the block for a late-morning walk in Spokane. It's a chance for the children to investigate the neighborhood, take in fresh air and help them with their sleeping after lunch, said the center's director, Sug Villella. • Hi everyone!! Just a note as the school year ends and summer approaches to let you know how much I've enjoyed working with you all over the past year. Your kids have been an absolute delight for me, both in story-time and summer programs. When your groups visit the library, the entire staff here breaks into smiles because the kids are so well behaved. It is obvious to me what talented teachers all of you are. I hope that in the years to come, all of you will continue to work with children as your careers. I'm sad to say I will be leaving East Side at the end of May to return to work at the North Spokane Library. I cannot tell you how much I'm going to miss our partnership, but I hope that you will continue to think of the East Side Library as a resource for both you and your kids! Thanks for all you've done to make me feel welcome and a part of the community.

    Talented teachers…

    (Brooke, Former Spokane Public Librarian)

  • We have had the utmost neatest experience this past 9 months with Southeast Daycare. I have 3 children and my youngest baby who will be turning 1 years old tomorrow. She will be graduating rooms and leaving the baby/infant room. I have literally been across the nation, from New York City to Spokane, and experienced different facilities and environments and I have never run into an establishment for children as grand as Southeast Daycare. Southeast Daycare truly have teachers that care about each individual child.

    Teachers that care…

    (Kimberly, Parent)

  • Once again, my wife and I would like to thank you and your staff for the years of dedication and hard work you have all put forth in caring and educating the children in our community. The graduation exercise for the kids was very special and meaningful (a proud moment) for the kids, to us, and I am sure, to all the other grandparents, parents and friends who attended. It was truly a delight to witness our grand daughter graduating from daycare. Just from the look on her face and on all the faces of the other children graduating daycare, their parents and friends, you all created a positive life experience that will remain in our hearts and minds for a long time. Thank you and your staff for contributing so much of your time, energy, and love. As was said at the graduation exercise, "The children are our future." I think all of our futures are looking much brighter because of the excellent work you and your staff are doing.

    Dedicated…

    (Kenneth, Grandparent)

  • This daycare taught my daughter her ABC's along with life skills that she needed. They have also made her feel welcome and important. She has learned so much at this center. I hope that this letter helps you understand that this is a wonderful place for children, and for their families. There is always someone here to talk to about anything and they are always willing to work with parents through hard times along with good ones.

    A wonderful place for children…

    (Diana, Parent)

  • I have been a visiting music teacher at Southeast Daycare and would like to strongly endorse their program as one of excellence. I have a Masters in Music Education and 42 years teaching experience. The organization and curriculum are what I find to be particularly strong points. I witness many early life skills being taught to the children from the age of one on. There is a strong emphasis on structure which I believe gives the children a sense of security and safety. There is also a wonderful disciplined atmosphere prevalent, with appropriate counseling of children with behavioral challenges. These factors make the visits that I make very enjoyable and I believe lead to a very happy environment.

    Excellence…

    (Dennis Craig, Spokane Music Institute)

  • I wanted to thank you for your hospitality over the past couple of years and we will all miss your smiles and I will miss the special care that you give to each and every child that walks through the door.

    Special care…

    (Diana, Parent)

  • Thank you for the excellent care you give my daughter. She enjoys going to your day care which she calls her school. The field trips they take are educational. She always comes home with lots of stories. She has learned her ABC's, colors, shapes, and lots, lots more since she has been there.

    Excellent care…

    (Barbara, Parent)

  • My son has been a student at Southeast Daycare Center. We have enjoyed the care he has received during this time. This has been the 4th facility my 18 month old has been in since birth. Therefore, I feel we have adequate experience to state that Southeast has provided the best care and has shown better than average concern for his emotional and physical welfare. For this, I will always be thankful. The teachers have also shown interest in our family life at home. They are constantly giving me ideas to help me cope with being a single parent. This has shown me the genuine love they have for my son. I would highly recommend to any parent who is looking for child care to seriously take a look at Southeast Daycare Center. It is best to find a center that fits your location, economic and social needs, and I have found Southeast Daycare Center to meet this.

    Highly recommended…

    (Kim, Parent)

  • I thank all the staff for taking good care of my son during the time he was there. When he came home I could see how much fun he had. I would like to see more daycare centers like your daycare and I thank you and your staff for a good job.

    Good Job…

    (Patricia, Parent)

  • I want to thank you and your staff for caring for my child. I wish I had known sooner, the level of care your daycare provides. Your people are a major link to the children of this community. I will embarrass myself and admit to being EXTREMELY skeptical about my child in a low-income daycare. I was raised in a middle class, "educated" family in a middle income neighborhood. Even though I lived here for a long time, I was determined not to allow my child to become one of "THEM". At first, my skeptical self thought "Well, maybe I would try Southeast Daycare." The fact is, my child was loved, taught, and guided as each child is in your daycare. Each child knows your staff has a level of expectation. The things I am attempting to teach at home are so naturally reinforced at daycare. Caring, sharing, respect, social skills, educational skills, and your belief in the child's abilities has given my child self-worth. I really believe your staff respects the children as much as each other. That's truly leadership from the top down. My primary goal is to teach my child self-worth, self-esteem, and self respect. In a short period of time, I actually became very comfortable with the level of care received. I was amazed at the time spent with the children teaching and learning. The activities and performances offered, showed tremendous effort and time spent by the teachers. The graduation...WOW!!! In 3 years, it appears nothing "negative" has rubbed off. I have lost the general stereotyping of a "low income" area. I never expected Southeast Daycare would do so much for the kids. My friend and I thought of a slogan regarding you and your staff: "Southeast Daycare, East Central's best kept secret." Thank you so much,

Southeast Daycare, East Central’s best kept secret.
